Mobility in Mexico City remains in crisis and the government's reaction to the situation of the Metro has been criticized by the PAN leader. In March 2023, the former head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced an investment of 2 billion 495 million pesos to improve the Metro trains, especially the rehabilitation of Line 9 with 296 million pesos allocated to benefit around 260,000 daily users.
"Supposedly, with this investment, we would have safer trains, faster transfers, and fewer failures. However, a simple short circuit left several stations without service, highlighting the fragility of the investment made, which shows incompetence in resource management," denounced the PAN leader.
Local PAN deputy Federico Chávez Semerena expressed his dismay over the continuity of Guillermo Calderón as director of the Metro despite the constant failures and alleged inability to resolve the crisis. "They promised us a safe and modern Metro, but all they have delivered is a collapsed system and more wasted money. Morena continues to use the Metro as a cash cow, while citizens pay the consequences," stated the legislator.
In light of the repeated technical problems, alleged negligence, and lack of maintenance on the Metro lines of Mexico City, the president of the PAN in the capital, Luisa Gutiérrez Ureña, demanded an end to the omissions from the general direction of the organization and to focus investment efforts on eradicating corruption. "We have seen images of people walking in the darkness on the tracks of Lines 8 and 9 of the Metro, in addition to the lack of immediate information in emergency situations," declared the leader.
Failures, delays, and accidents continue to put the lives of Metro users at risk, despite the millions invested to modernize the system. "Users arrive late to their activities and face risks. But what really happened? Line 9 collapsed again," concluded Gutiérrez Ureña.
